Betrayed Premiere is the Talk of the Town

On Wednesday Sept 26th, Betrayed had its’ world premiere at the TCL Chinese Theatres 6 in 6801 Hollywood Blvd, Hollywood, CA 90028. This much anticipated action crime thriller from multi award-winning actor and filmmaker Harley Wallen, “Betrayed,” stars Richard Tyson, John Savage, Billy Wirth, TJ Storm, Yan Birch, Kaiti Wallen, Nick Sarelli, Calhoun Koenig, Angelina Danielle Cama and Blanca Blanco.

Numerous celebrities and VIPs were in attendance such as filmmaker/actor Harley Wallen (Bennett’s Song), Richard Tyson (Kindergarten Cop), Billy Wirth (The Lost Boys), TJ Storm (Punisher: War Zone), Kaiti Wallen (Into A Dark Mind), Yan Birch (The People Under the Stairs), Nick Sarelli (Moving Parts), Calhoun Koenig (Bennett’s Song) and Angelina Danielle Cama (Moving Parts). Other celebrities in attendance were Jake Busey (The Predator), Scout Taylor-Compton (Rob Zombie’s Halloween 1 and 2), Tara Reid (American Pie), Dennis Haskins (Saved By the Bell), Mel Novak (Bruce Lee’s Game of Death), Sean Whalen (Twister), Emmy awarding Producer Kelly Parker (Game Girls), Athena Bass (Ex-Wives of Rock), yours truly (The Mindy Project), Sadie Katz (Wrong Turn 6: Last Resort), Jimmy Star and Ron Russell (The Jimmy Star Show with Ron Russell), celebrity couture designers Mathilde Badji and Michael Ferrera as well as celebrity hair and makeup artists Bruna Nogueira (Founder of Hollywood Makeup Lab) and Alma Cedillo.

The Wallens’ style that night was also the talk of the town. Kaiti looked like a super glam, modern day version of Bridgitte Bardot and Harley channelled his inner Spencer Tracy. Kaiti’s hair was by Bruna Nogueira, her makeup was by Alma Cedillo, and her gown was by Mathilde Badji couture. So was yours truly’s. Mathilde is an incredible French designer that I’ve had the honor of being dressed by before and makes incredible hand made gowns that are so elegant yet sexy. Kaiti’s heels were by Michael Kors and her bracelets were courtesy of The Mitra Collection (i.e. my mom Mitra’s vintage costume jewelry collection). Harley’s suit was by Michael Ferrera, who makes custom suits. Michael’s suits are amazing and he has a keen eye for men’s wear that is evident in his classical as well as modern designs. So Very Vida was thrilled to have assisted in styling this talented duo who truly rocked the red carpet. The sponsors of the event were ROAK Brewery, Cabresto Tequila, Oochie Wear, Painted Creek Productions and Vision Films.

This action crime thriller deals with the gritty world of human trafficking. In an effort to control the city, the Mayor Don Alderman (John Savage, The Thin Red Line) lets the Russian mob into his city. After the Russians don’t follow his rules, he opens the city to the cartel to push them out. When the Russians find out, Mikhail (Harley Wallen, Bennett’s Song), the head of the Russian mafia along with his loyal yet surly crony Karpov (Damien Chinappi), kidnap’s the Mayor’s daughter (Kaiti Wallen, Into A Dark Mind) and then the real games begin. Caught in the middle of an escalating crisis, Mayor Alderman hires Mike Wolf (Billy Wirth, The Lost Boys) and Alpha (TJ Storm, Punisher Warzone) to rescue his daughter before the cunning Mr. Stone (Richard Tyson, Black Hawk Down) puts her on the market to be trafficked. One of my favorite scenes was with Harley and Tyson, who was not only cunning and calculated as Mr. Stone, but also sarcastic in a way that only Tyson could be, given what a seasoned actor he is, old school flip phone and all. Guess he’s portraying old school gangster with that phone. He’s shouting obscenities, but with such humor and zeal that it’s truly enjoyable to watch. (Sidenote…working with Tyson and some of the others in this cast on Abeyance was an incredible, life affirming experience). And Harley holds his own as the soulless Mikhail with great skill and a fabulous Russian accent to boot, that one would think it’s real if they didn’t know Harley or didn’t see his other films (which if you haven’t, you are missing out). I also enjoyed Harley’s fight scene fellow actor and black belt martial artist TJ Storm, who played Alpha quite well. It made me want to get back into kickboxing, except I’m still recovering from tendonitis in my right shoulder, so I’d rather watch the black belts do the stunts than experience them myself on a mat.

Kaiti Wallen gives a winning performance as the Mayor’s daughter Marie Alderman and is like a tragic heroine in a Shakespearean play. The whole cast gives tour de force performances. I also really enjoyed John Savage as the troubled Mayor Alderman, Billy Wirth’s brooding performance as Mike Wolf particularly during the interrogation scene, Yan Birch as the somber coroner Bjork, Nick Sarelli as Cash, particularly his interesting opening scene (what a great character entrance into a film!) and Sean Rey as the conflicted Darryl. What Kaiti as Marie, Calhoun Koenig as Jessie and Angelina Cama as Paris went through as characters and their chilling reactions really affected the audience at this premiere. One woman gasped near me when their characters were shown to be caged and cuffed. And tough lady detectives Aphrodite Nikolovski as Det. Sandra Miller and Jennifer Jelsema as Det. Alex Redford round out the cast and makes one want to say, “you go girls!” This was a tragic story that only Harley and his team could tell, but it spreads some much needed attention to the bleak world of human trafficking and how widespread an epidemic it is in our country. The power of the human spirit, as shown by the performances in this film, truly shines through.

“With three beautiful daughters and a stunning wife, the subject of trafficking is something that it’s on my mind more than I’d like to admit. I wrote this script with the hopes of scaring people a bit into action after my church really brought this to the forefront. I feel we often think these things happen far away and the victims and perpetrators are somewhat faceless. I think in Betrayed we bring these issues to your doorstep. We had some absolutely amazing and electric performances and I am super proud of my cast and crew for this, it took some blood, sweat and tears to get this made but it was worth it!”, said director Wallen.

Wallen has been awarded by numerous prestigious film festivals such as the Castel Award at the Barcelona International Film Festival, Amsterdam Film Festival, London Film Awards and the Mexico International Film Festival.

Lise Romanoff, Managing Director/ CEO of Vision Films says, “Betrayed is an entertaining film about blackmail, corruption and greed taking place at the government level. I believe it is necessary for the public to get a glimpse into this dark facet of our society in order to invoke change.”

Betrayed will be released on Blu Ray and DVD and VOD by Vision Films through its distribution deal with Sony Pictures Home Entertainment on October 2, 2018.

ABOUT HARLEY WALLEN:

Multi award-winning filmmaker and actor Harley Wallen has starred in over 40 feature films and TV shows with legendary stars such as Tom Sizemore, Tara Reed, John Savage and Richard Tyson among many others. He started his journey as a martial artist early with Judo at age 7 and is now a 5th degree black belt. Harley also spent time learning other forms of martial arts (Jiu-Jitsu, Tae Kwon – Do black belts as well) and Mixed Martial Arts. His other love at a young age was dance as he was an outstanding break dancer in his teen years. His sheer talent and skill is what landed him his first opportunity in acting as dance at the syndicated Swedish TV cult hit ‘Solstollarna’! Soon after, he was bitten by the acting bug. Harley then moved from Sweden to the United States to boldly pursue his dreams. After a short stint these plans got side-tracked by business opportunities as Harley climbed various career ladders. After returning to acting, it wasn’t long before the roles started coming and the growth he had experienced in the business world started happening to him in the acting world. After the film incentives ended in Michigan, he decided to start making films of his own. Not having a film school background with only limited experience, he decided to go online to further his education in filmmaking and took classes and seminars in acting. Finally, in 2016, Harley and his wife Kaiti formed the film production company ‘Painted Creek Productions‘. The one thing he really takes pride in is his commitment to the character he is playing regardless of the size of the role or the pay check. Harley is now writing, acting and directing and has found his life’s purpose!
